Role: Sr. Manager – Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management
Location: Foster City, CA (hybrid)
Duration: 12+ Months
Job Summary:
The Senior Manager, Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management will lead
sourcing strategies, supplier relationships, and procurement activities
across multiple categories within Gilead. This role involves managing
supplier performance, negotiating agreements, mitigating risks, and
supporting new product development. The ideal candidate will bring deep
expertise in supplier management, cross-functional leadership, and
strategic sourcing within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management:
• Act as the primary contact for supplier business discussions, capacity
planning, and development.
• Lead supplier selection, contract negotiations, and risk assessments.
• Manage supplier performance and serve as an escalation point for issue
resolution.
• Support make-vs-buy analyses and implement Category Management Team
(CMT) strategies.
• Conduct annual Business Review Meetings (BRMs) and monitor supplier
risk mitigation processes.
Procurement & Inventory Oversight:
• Oversee procurement activities, purchase order placement, and
component inventory management.
• Prepare and track RFPs/RFQs/RFIs in collaboration with
cross-functional teams.
• Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including budget
development and accrual tracking.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Leadership:
• Lead cross-functional teams to support supplier selection from
development through commercialization.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across Manufacturing, Quality Assurance,
Technical Development, and Analytical Operations.
• Establish clear quality and technical expectations with suppliers.
• Organize and lead internal/external meetings, teleconferences, and
site assessments.
Operational Excellence & Compliance:
• Drive process improvement initiatives and participate in Operational
Excellence projects.
• Ensure compliance with GMPs and applicable regulations (21 CFR parts
11, 210, 211, 820).
• Stay current on supplier capabilities and industry best practices to
support Gilead’s pipeline.
Qualifications:
• 8+ years in pharmaceutical/biotech manufacturing or related
environment.
• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA/MA counts as 2 years’ experience; PhD
counts as 4 years’ experience.
• Proven experience managing manufacturing service providers and/or
direct material suppliers.
• Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP) and strong computer skills.
• In-depth understanding of CMC development and GMP regulations.
• Strong negotiation, people management, and project leadership skills.
• Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation abilities.
• Experience with combination products preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced
environment.
• Project management certification is a plus.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% (domestic/international).
