Role: Principal Data Architect (Clinical Research CRO / Life Sciences Domain)
Location: USA Remote
Contract
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Data Architect to join our Technical Domain Architecture team within the Architecture Group of our Global Data Organization. The Principal Data Architect will play a pivotal role in designing, managing, and optimizing our data architecture to support the Client’s strategic objectives. This individual will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the scalability, reliability, and performance of our data infrastructure, enabling data-driven decision-making across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Data platform design and development, a deep understanding of software architecture principles, and a strong background in cloud services and loosely coupled architectures.
Essential Functions:
- Clinical Data Lake
- Develop and maintain comprehensive data architecture strategies tailored to the unique needs of Clinical and Operational data management.
- Define and implement data models, schemas, and integration frameworks to ensure the integrity and accessibility of clinical data.
- Data replication from variety of internal and external data sources into Snowflake Data Warehouse Raw layer.
- Integrate disparate clinical systems, applications, and data sources to enable interoperability and data exchange across the life sciences ecosystem.
- Develop APIs, interfaces, and middleware solutions for seamless communication between clinical software systems and databases.
- Ensure compatibility and compliance with industry standards such as CDISC, SDTM, ODM, HL7, FHIR, and others.
- Monitor compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA, GDPR, and other data privacy laws, and implement measures to address potential risks and vulnerabilities.
- Design and Development:
- Implement data architecture solutions using modern technologies and platforms, such as cloud-based data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, AWS Redshift, etc.).
- Establish data management frameworks, standards, and best practices for data governance, quality, and security.
- Author and maintain data standards and best practices documentation to ensure consistency and adherence across the organization.
- Lead all data engineering tasks and implement data pipelines, ETL processes to ingest, transform, and load clinical data from various sources into the data infrastructure.
- Optimize data workflows and performance through automation, parallel processing, and data partitioning techniques.
- Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to support advanced analytics, machine learning, and predictive modeling initiatives.
- Implement security controls, encryption mechanisms, and access management policies to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access, breaches, and cyber threats.
- Clinical Systems
- Understanding of Clinical systems and processes
Skills
- Expertise in database design, data modeling, and data integration techniques.
- Strong command in ETL and Data Integration tools like Talend, AWS Glue, streaming technologies (STRIIM), virtualization (Denodo etc)
- Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) tools Informatica MDM
- Experience with Snowflake Cloud Data Warehouse Platform is required:
- Experience using Snowflake capabilities such as Snowpipes, Tasks, Streams, Stored Procedures, Data Replication.
- Must have CI/CD experience
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including guiding technical teams, offering mentorship, and influencing architectural decisions.
- Demonstrated commitment to staying current with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in the data and analytics field.
- Relevant certifications in cloud computing and data analytics tools/platforms are advantageous.
Required
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
- 10+ years of relevant experience working in in data architecture, engineering roles or related roles within a healthcare industry.
Preferred
- 7+ years’ experience in Life Sciences industry
- Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
- Advanced Analytics experience
- Experience of clinical systems EDC, IVR, CTMS, etc
