2 SD heavy (70% exp) + & Networking knowledge (routing, switching, Fw, Load balancing)/ NetScout- Arbor

Experience Level: Senior (70% focus on Solution Design)

1. Scope of Responsibility

CDN Observability Engineer

• Focuses on the observability of a Content Delivery Network (CDN)—monitoring its performance, reliability, and health.
• Builds systems to track metrics, logs, traces, and alerts from the CDN infrastructure.
• Aims to provide real-time visibility into traffic patterns, latency, errors, and availability of edge nodes.

2. Main Goals

CDN Observability Engineer

• Ensure the CDN’s operational status is always visible.
• Create dashboards, alerting systems, and logging pipelines to detect and debug performance issues.

3. Tools and Technologies

CDN Observability Engineer

• Tools: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK stack, Datadog, Sentry.
• Languages: Python, Go, Shell scripting.
• Focus on telemetry pipelines, distributed tracing, alerting, and dashboarding.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead solution design to build observability frameworks for CDN platforms.
• Develop tools and dashboards that provide transparency into CDN usage and performance.
• Collaborate with application owners to tailor observability solutions to their needs.
• Integrate observability tools with Cloudflare, Akamai, F5, and other CDN solutions.
• Ensure observability solutions are scalable, secure, and reliable.
• Support automation of observability data collection and visualization.

Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience in observability and solution design for CDN platforms.
• In-depth experience with Cloudflare, Akamai, and F5.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (routing, switching, firewalls, load balancing).
• Knowledge of monitoring tools such as NetScout or Arbor.
• Proficient in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Bash, Grafana, Prometheus).
• Ability to translate technical data into actionable insights for application teams.
