The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)Information Technology Division (ITD) is seeking a Network architect to join the VDOT Enterprise Architecture team. This individual will work with key members focusing on strategic planning, design, and the long-term vision, ensuring network solutions align with the organization. All computer networks need to be configured in such a way that all end users can securely and efficiently access the applications, data, and tools, this also involves implementing the network to meet rigorous security standards alongside installing and configuring hardware elements. Candidates must be able to provide documentation throughout the design and deployment process as a reference for future network enhancements or maintenance. Provide overall technology guidance, road maps, principles, standards, and best practices around networking
Responsibilities:
·Document comprehensive network designs that integrate multiple network technologies, such as LANs, WANs, wireless networks, and VPNs, to support the organizations business operations and communication needs.
·Design and document the entire network implementation process
·Monitoring network performance and taking follow-up steps to resolve latency issues and security concerns
·Performing regular network upgrades to create greater efficiency
·Creating documentation throughout the design and deployment process for future reference
·Develop patterns and standards for all network designs
·The ability to analyze data traffic and system performance to determine future upgrades.
·Work with our IT staff and thirds-party equipment and software vendors to ensure the network needs are met.
·Research new technologies and solutions, and asses new technologies for adoption
·Define multisite network operations and software applications.
·Train, mentor, and transfer skills to the extended team.
·Works on highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge across multiple specialized architecture domains and networking layers.
·Aligns architecture strategy with business goals.
·Defines, explains, and advocates technology strategy.
