Job Title: Network support engineer
Location: COLUMBUS, OHIO- onsite
Hire Type: Contract
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Monitoring & Maintenance: Monitor the performance of the organization’s networks, troubleshoot issues, and ensure that all network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) are functioning properly.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnose and resolve network problems, including connectivity issues, hardware malfunctions, or software conflicts.
- Configuration & Installation: Set up and configure networking hardware (routers, switches, access points), as well as network services (DNS, DHCP).
- Security Management: Implement and manage network security protocols, including firewalls, VPNs, and encryption to ensure secure data transmission and access.
- Network Optimization: Perform regular tests and analyses to assess the network’s performance, identifying opportunities for improvements and implementing solutions.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of network configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and issues resolved.
- Customer Support: Provide technical support to internal users or customers by responding to network-related queries, providing troubleshooting assistance, and offering advice on optimizing network performance.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other IT professionals, system administrators, and security teams to ensure seamless integration and performance of the network infrastructure.
- Network Upgrades: Assist in the planning and implementation of network upgrades or migrations to enhance performance and scalability.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure that the network complies with relevant standards and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Experience: Proven experience in network support, including working with routers, switches, firewalls, and other network hardware.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or similar are preferred.
- Skills:
- Proficient in TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and other networking protocols.
- Hands-on experience with network troubleshooting tools (ping, traceroute, Wireshark, etc.).
- Understanding of network security best practices.
- Knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) and their networking configurations.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle critical issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
