JOB DESCRIPTION:
Note: We need a very senior (10-15+ years) Chief Risk Officer to lead the remediation of the Banks Risk system to beet upcoming deadlines. Candidates need to be C-Level ( Not Project/Program Managers or Directors) and have extensive experience in bringing Banks up to regulatory compliance. The bank also deals in Wealth Management so experience with Wealth Management is highly preferred.
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Interim Chief Risk Officer to lead and oversee the risk management and regulatory compliance functions of our community bank. This role will focus on ensuring adherence to all applicable banking regulations, maintaining a strong risk framework, and supporting the bank’s leadership during a transitional period.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the bank’s enterprise risk management framework with a primary focus on regulatory compliance.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with federal and state banking regulations (e.g., FDIC, OCC, CFPB, BSA/AML).
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies during audits and examinations.
- Assess current risk and compliance programs; recommend and implement enhancements as needed.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to identify, evaluate, and mitigate key operational, financial, and reputational risks.
- Lead and support compliance training initiatives for staff.
- Prepare and present risk and compliance reports to the Board and executive management.
- Provide guidance during policy updates and help ensure internal controls are aligned with regulatory expectations.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in risk management and regulatory compliance within the banking industry.
- Prior leadership experience, ideally as a CRO, Compliance Officer, or similar role.
- Strong understanding of community banking operations and regulatory environment.
- Ability to lead during transitionary periods and work independently.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
